The interior of the island of St. Peter

Crea: 10/11/2016 - 20:00
La campagna dell'isola di San PietroSt. Peter's Island inland area is characterized by typical Mediterranean vegetation: rosemary, rock rose, myrtle, strawberry tree, the dwarf palm,  etc. and from the pine forests of Aleppo.

We highlight some places features such as the Nasca Basin, a reservoir located in the northern part which once supplied water to the town of Carloforte.
In the immediate vicinity of the basin it was recently built a wind una photovoltaic power station.

Lo stagno di CalavinagraAlso worth visiting the pond of Calavinagra and pine forest adjacent to it. The best season to visit it is certainly not the summer, as a result of the strong evaporation it dries. Be careful when you are there, and now and then raise your head to the sky: you are close to the area where nests the Eleonora's falcon, a rare bird of prey that nests in the summer, in fairly large colonies, on the steep cliffs and with his presence (about a hundred pairs) qualifies the Island of San Pietro, from a naturalistic point of view, as an area of international importance. (see Oasi LIPU Carloforte).Another interesting area is the  Becco, disused mining area, which once also housed a small mining village located on the beautiful coastline overlooking the homonymous gulf.

I fenicotteri nelle salineIn the Island are also present some Nuraghi: this shows that the populations of Nuraghic (2000 A.C.), were not, as some believe, totally inexperienced in matters of maritime skills.

The saltworks are located next to the village. They are no longer in operation for years, but that is why they have become the habitat of several species of water birds, including an entire colony of flamingos.
It remains much more to be seen, but we would not take away completely the pleasure of discovery ....

Il fungo di pietra... and walking, for example, you happen to come across strange rocks that the wind and weather have shaped over time, and which, like that of the photo at right, the carlofortini were even given a name: the mushroom. (Periods Recommended for walking: May, June, September)
